The Product

The development of Magnum Horse Bedding began with an interest in creating healthier, more affordable and more manageable bedding for horses.

Research revealed that trees in Northern British Columbia have an opportunity to grow slower, which allows them to produce a stronger fibre. As well, these trees are not subjected to the various kinds of pollution that is evident in some areas of Southern British Columbia.

This research resulted in an engineered bedding pellet far more absorbent than other bedding on the market today. It is believed that this high absorbency factor is not only because of the stronger fibre but also due to the combination of Pine and Spruce that makes up this unique product.

The results of this initial testing encouraged Magnum Bedding to move forward with their quest to develop a low dust, high absorbency wood pellet bedding. This resulted in the birth of Magnum Horse Bedding which was first introduced in 2000. Glen Morrison and the company later developed and introduced its unique “Quik-Pick” brand of mini-chip wood shavings.

The Company

Magnum Horse Products Ltd. and Magnum Industries Inc. were established in Richmond, BC by Glen Morrison in 2000. Mr. Morrison successfully developed the product and began selling the Magnum Bedding (and later Quik-Pick) products directly to customers. Later the company established a number of regional dealer / distributors in the USA, Canada and Asia. The products were well received by the marketplace and the business enjoyed several years of success and growth. Unfortunately a series of internal and financial problems befell the companies in 2004 and they were forced to close late that year.

During 2005 and beyond several other companies sold old inventories and used the terms "Magnum Bedding" and "Quik-Pick" or other closely related words to describe their products. Most of this practice has now stopped. MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd. and our products are not related to any of these other products, including QuikT’Pick, Magnum Pellets, and Horseman’s Choice.

MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd. was formed by associates of Glen Morrison in early 2005 to carry on the legacy of Magnum Bedding; due to personal circumstances, Mr. Morrison was not able to carry on his involvement in the venture.

In mid-2006 MBC Magnum Bedding finally began production and reintroduced the flagship Softwood Pellet Horse Bedding product in the original tan bag. Glen Morrison commented: “I am very pleased to see Magnum Bedding back in the marketplace. I would have liked to see it sooner. I wish MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd. every success.”

A Note About the "Magnum" Name

"I chose the name 'Magnum' to honour my 16H Appaloosa who has been so forgiving to me in learning to ride and 'jump'," says former Magnum Horse Products Inc. President Glen Morrison.

"He initially was a gaming horse, ironically from Northern British Columbia, until I bought him after renting him to go on a cattle drive in the interior of British Columbia (Ashcroft to Kamloops)," Glen says. "I had not owned nor rode a horse before."

"Over the years Magnum and I have advanced to winning many championships in Hunter and Jumper competitions. For this I am grateful for his patience and kind disposition."
